In the center of the city is located Čakovec old fortress city, symbol of the city long time ago and today. The owners of the fortress for many centuries were also the masters of the whole estate Međimurje.

Varaždin is a city rich in history, as evidenced by the fact that it was the capital city of the Croatia until the city was destroyed by the great fire.
